Companies have been familiar with the data for decades. IPCC reports, scientific projections, environmental indicators - there has never been a shortage of information. However, despite the increasing number of extreme events - heatwaves, fires, floods, droughts - the necessary changes are still insufficient and too slow.
The Human Adaptation Institute has identified why.
The problem is not the information. It's the trigger.
All our research over the last twenty years has come to the same conclusion: the desire to change is not born of information received. It arises from an experienced sensory emotion. Being informed is necessary. It is the emotions we feel that trigger decisions.
This principle, documented in extreme conditions such as deserts, jungles, caves and polar environments, applies with the same rigour to organisations. General management can intellectually integrate climate projections without any real change in its decisions. Physical exposure to these realities produces a radically different effect.
The system
Climate Sense is a 30-minute immersive experience designed by Christian Clot, explorer-researcher and founder of the Human Adaptation Institute. Participants experience the likely climate conditions in France by the middle of the century, 50°C in the shade. Walking, working, thinking and talking in these conditions. Not a digital simulation, but a physical reality, scientifically documented and calibrated to current climate projections.
The aim is not to provoke. It's to create the conditions for informed decision-making, rooted in feeling, not just analysis.
The results
Since September 2024, 5657 people have gone through the experience. Of these, around 30% took concrete action the very next day.
In 80 days of events, Climate Sense has travelled through 8 French regions and extended its international presence to Geneva and Luxembourg. The audiences reached were varied: executive committees, CSR teams, operational managers, academics, local councillors, members of parliament and candidates for national office. They have all been confronted with the same physical reality: working and thinking in 50°C shade is simply unbearable. And this reality, experienced in 30 minutes, produces what years of communication have failed to trigger.
Integration into corporate strategies
Climate Sense can be integrated into management seminars, transformation programmes, internal events or structured CSR initiatives. It does not replace existing adaptation plans. It creates the human and emotional conditions for these plans to be genuinely supported, decided upon and implemented, and is a fabulous tool for commitment.
Adaptation is something you feel, understand and prepare for.
